This year we responded to one local disaster and eight residential fires. We helped 14 adults and ten children with emergency food, shelter and supplies. To aid in preparing your family and community to be safer and sometimes to minimize injury and destruction, we have provided disaster education training to approximately 1200 members of our community. Health and Safety Services American Red Cross helps people to lead safer and healthier lives by providing classes such as First Aid, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), AED (Automated External Defibrillation), and swimming and lifeguarding. This year 2,011 individuals learned lifesaving skills through 397 classes offered by the chapter. International Services The international tracing program helps local families find relatives with whom they have lost contact because of a natural disaster, war, or internal conflict. We are currently helping one family to reconnect with loved ones in a foreign land. Armed Forces Emergency Services The American Red Cross provides communication between those in the Armed Forces and their families. We have a worldwide network that reaches service members wherever they are to communicate a birth, death, or illness. This year we provided emergency connections for 75 military families. Blood Services Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Thanks to generous blood donors, the American Red Cross collects and distributes nearly half the nation’s blood supply. Your local American Red CrossChapter does not collect blood. However,we support the blood drives in our community. Community Services Our community is located in San Bernardino County, which provides a grant for the purchase of food through the Emergency Food Service Program (EFSP). As a Chapter, we qualify annually for this grant. The food is available to low, and moderately low, individuals within our community. This year we have provided food to 254 families. A Note About Volunteers We depend on volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to carry on our work. Volunteers constitute 97 percent of our total workforce, serving as members of the board , instructors teaching lifesaving skills, disaster action team members, office administrators, event organizers, and more. This year, 78 volunteers made the work of the chapter possible, contributing hours, for a contribution estimated at $92,871.56.
